Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jabalpur was established in the year 2004 funded by ICAR with the aim to transfer the refined agricultural technologies for cost effective enhancement of agricultural production and to empower the weaker sections of the society for livelihood security. Besides the immense contribution in socio economic upliftment of peasants, provided vocational trainings not only in agriculture but also in other self reliant, income generating activities/enterprises such as tailoring, candle making, bakery products, fruits and vegetable preservation. Innovative programmes like e-linkage, kisan mobile sandesh, crop cafeteria, technology park, meadow orchard, rejuvenation of old orchards, development of scion bank, adoption of SRI in paddy and ridge and furrow system of planting in soybean etc. have facilitated farmers/entrepreneurs to realize the motto of KVK i.e. “Reach the unreached”. Following bottom-up (participatory) and need oriented approach; the KVK has earned credibility and visibility in Jabalpur district. The agricultural productivity of major crops viz., soybean, paddy, wheat, gram, mustard, has increased significantly. By adopting three significant inputs viz., seed, variety and technology replacement, the average agricultural production of the district has increased by 20% and also the cost of cultivation reduced by 20%, this 20:20 formula make the farmers financially sustained. Other income generating activities supplementing the family income includes vermicomposting, lac cultivation, nursery management, mushroom cultivation, seed village programme and seed producing groups benefitting more than 250 farm families. In addition, training on home making and nutrition, education for rural community especially women; vocational training programmes on home crafts and cottage industries have shown a tremendous impact. At present 5 self help groups of women have achieved economic sustainability. The programme on OFT for assessment and refinement of technologies was made site specific, holistic, farmers participatory, technical solution based on the problems, inter disciplinary, interactive, gender specific and frequentative, giving feedback for refining the technologies.
